Work at Height Medical Assessment
Work at Height Medical Assessment
Medical Assessments are carried out to ensure an individual is fit to work in a specific environment
Service Description
Medical Assessments for Working at Height Medical assessments are essential to ensure individuals are physically fit to work in specific environments. Those working at height, including riggers, telecommunication engineers, and other professionals, must undergo a medical evaluation to assess their fitness for such demanding roles. The Working at Height Medical consists of a comprehensive health screening, which includes vision tests, BMI calculation, grip strength assessment, urinalysis (to check for diabetes), a fitness evaluation using the Tecumseh Step Test, and a consultation with an occupational health nurse. Purpose of the Medical Assessment The objective of these medical evaluations is to: Identify medical conditions at an early stage. Reduce the risk of sudden health issues that may lead to incapacitation or the need for emergency rescue. Encourage employees to seek medical attention if new health concerns arise. Ensure that chronic health conditions are well-managed. Establish a consistent standard across the industry for medical assessments. Key Components of the Medical Examination The medical assessment must include the following minimum requirements: Completion and review of a health questionnaire. Measurement of weight, height, and Body Mass Index (BMI). Blood pressure and pulse check. Vision assessment (near, far, and peripheral vision). Hearing test using the whisper test. Diabetes screening via urine or blood test. Musculoskeletal assessment. Comprehensive physical examination, including cardiac, respiratory, neurological, and mental health evaluation. Cardio-respiratory fitness assessment using the Chester Step Test or an equivalent fitness-to-climb test. Conducting the Medical Assessment While certain tests may be carried out by a nurse or technician, the overall medical assessment and final determination regarding fitness for work must be conducted by a Registered Medical Practitioner. This practitioner must be listed on the General Medical Council’s register and possess a valid license to practice, along with an understanding of the physical demands associated with mast and tower climbing. Upon completion of the medical, a fitness certificate will be issued, detailing any necessary adjustments and setting a review date if required. This ensures workers meet the essential health standards to safely perform their roles at height while maintaining their overall well-being. Book with us today!
